Fees and expenses

Current match official fees

Fees are read live from the League Management System. The home team pays League fixture costs. For League Cup fixtures, each team pays its 50% share directly to the match official.

Matchday essentials

Before, during and after the game

Before the game

  • Check the appointment, venue and kick-off time.
  • Confirm availability and review the relevant competition rules.
  • Arrive with the correct kit and equipment.

At the ground

  • Complete pre-match checks and receive team sheets.
  • Apply the Laws and competition rules consistently.
  • Prioritise player welfare, safety and Respect standards.

After the game

  • Confirm the result and complete required reports.
  • Report misconduct, discrimination, abuse or serious incidents promptly.
  • Submit any expenses or mileage in accordance with League arrangements.

Get qualified

Complete The FA Referee Course through Gloucestershire FA.

Register with the GCGL

Register your interest so the League can add you to its referee pool.

Receive suitable appointments with ongoing support and development opportunities.

Requirements and young referees

  • Complete The FA Referee Course and required safeguarding learning.
  • Every GCGL referee aged 16 or over must hold a valid DBS check. This is a mandatory League requirement.
  • Parental consent for referees under 18 is completed through the FA registration system and the relevant club registration process.
  • Young referees receive age-appropriate appointments and support as they develop.

Support and welfare

You are not on your own

Referee welfare support is provided by the GCGL League Welfare Officer and the Referees’ Association. Abuse, threats, intimidation and discrimination must be reported immediately.
